Open to the public, East Mountain Shooting Preserve was established in Dover Plains, NY in 1962 by our Uncle Vic and Aunt Dot. They took pride in offering their friends and clients the finest quality guided upland bird hunts, pheasant tower shoots and upland gun dog training. Their passion of the business has been passed to us.

Still a true family endeavor, East Mountain is not run by one person – but is a group effort. Brothers George and Michael Holomakoff oversee the preserve and gun dog training business, but they could not do what is needed day-to-day without the help of family and close friends. Our friends all have a similar story. They came to East Mountain to simply to go hunting or train their dog and continued to come back week to week, year to year becoming part of our family.

We take following in our uncle and aunt’s footprints seriously, striding to provide our clients with the finest quality guided field hunts utilizing varying covers and terrains. We listen to our clients’ needs and try to offer them the experience they’re looking for. Whether that’s hunting pheasant, chukar, Hungarian partridge or bobwhite quail.

Behind your dog, or one of our pointing dogs, our personable guides stride to offer you a safe and memorable day afield. Our tower and corporate shoots are truly customized to your needs. Our gunner’s cabin can accommodate events up to 75 people and has sleeping quarters for four. We offer catering for all events. Our dog training operation is focused on helping produce the dog our client needs, teaching dog owners the fundamentals of behavior modification theory and pack behavior. We enjoy working with clients and their dogs, whether it’s in a one-on-one or group environment. We offer boarding and training on select scale and training fields for individuals and clubs.

We encourage new dog training clients to come out and visit. We are confident that after spending some time with us, you will want to come back. We are proud to say we’ve been training quality pointing dogs and teaching their owners for over 50 years.

We are on a 300+ acre property located in Dover Plains, NY – less than 90 minutes from New York City, Westchester and Fairfield Counties.
